Hi, I’m Dr. Ify McKerlie, a Radiologist with over 20 years of experience, specializing in breast imaging and passionate about empowering women through education and care. I completed my medical training at the University of Saskatchewan and my Radiology residency at McGill University. During my final year, I had the opportunity to moonlight in Bathurst, New Brunswick. That experience solidified my love for every aspect of Radiology and led to my first role focusing on breast imaging—a specialty that has since become my greatest passion.
Currently, I am also an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta, where I mentor medical students and Radiology residents. I’ve had the privilege of presenting at conferences and serving on several committees dedicated to advancing breast imaging practices and quality. I am also on the advocacy working group of the Canadian Society of Breast Imaging (CSBI).I grew up in Nigeria, and my upbringing in Africa continues to shape who I am today. I’m a proud mom to two amazing daughters and have been married to my wonderful husband for nearly 30 years.
Outside of work, I embrace my many interests: fitness, fashion, and beauty—especially makeup and clothing. While handbags are fabulous, clothes and makeup always top the list for me!
In 2023, I added “Podcast Host” to my repertoire with the launch of The Illuminated Dark Room: Conversations on Breast Health and Beyond. I created this platform to connect with people, share valuable insights, and explore topics that resonate with my audience. As an extrovert who loves meaningful conversations, this podcast has been a joyful extension of my work and passions.
I’m deeply committed to educating and inspiring women to take charge of their breast health and advocate for themselves. Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women in Canada will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and 2025 is the year to get #BreastObsessed! Whether it’s through my podcast, social media platforms (@drifywomenshealth), or the videos I create, I aim to share knowledge that can make a real difference.
